Magnificent desktop equatorial sundial with integrated compass, made in solid engraved brass and mounted on an elegant circular turned wood pedestal. This is a commemorative edition created for the 500th Anniversary of the Discovery of America (1492-1992), as engraved on the medallion at the base.

The piece combines decorative, historical and scientific value. The outer ring reproduces an equatorial dial with abundant ornamental engravings in Renaissance-inspired style, while in the center it incorporates a compass protected by glass that allows proper orientation of the instrument for its use as a sundial.

The ensemble shows excellent manufacturing quality, with burin-engraved decoration on virtually the entire surface of the brass. The wooden pedestal provides stability and elegance, making it an attractive desk, library or collection piece of scientific instruments.

This type of sundials were produced in limited series during the celebrations of the V Centenary and today are appreciated by collectors of scientific instruments as well as objects related to navigation and the history of discoveries.
