This is a Japanese Noh mask, specifically a Ko-omote mask. The mask has a light beige base and is shaped like a human face, with a full and three-dimensional form. It features dark purple woven hanging ropes on both sides, allowing it to be worn in performance without any painted decoration, thus enhancing the sculptural quality of the piece.
Noh masks are central to the Japanese classical theatrical tradition, revealing highly expressive emotional layers through subtle changes in light and perspective.
