Description
Henri Deschamps (1898–1990) was one of Picasso's principal technical collaborators, a master lithographer and colorist at the Mourlot Atelier in Paris, the famous printing house with which Picasso began to work intensely in 1945. The relationship was this: Picasso conceived and drew the work on the lithographic stone or tracing paper.
Deschamps prepared stones, colors, inks and proofs, literally translating Picasso's intentions into the final result.
Picasso checked the proofs, made corrections, and could request numerous passes before authorizing the edition.
For images drawn from existing paintings or drawings, Deschamps manually recreated the composition on the lithographic stones, preserving the colors and details of the original.
The sources from the Mourlot Atelier describe him as one of Picasso's most trusted and preferred printers, with a collaboration extending from 1945 until the artist's death in 1973.
Expressive and evocative landscape of 1933, painted by the artist Deschamps. The work shows a cloudy and dramatic sky over a hilly landscape with several buildings, including a house with a red roof. The bold brushstrokes, the contrasting light, and the dark, almost tempestuous atmosphere confer strong emotional intensity to the painting.
