Description from the seller
SACHA LYS - Study for a Young Englishman - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media, acrylic painting, pigment ink · Hand-signed · 2026
Atelier Academy: a young adult man, bare chest, seated against a brushed grey-mauve wall. A black velvet drape covers the legs, a sleeve of white gauze slides along the left arm. Coppery curls, narrow shoulders, pronounced collarbones, gaze raised, at once haughty and absent.
Spare counterpoint of Chapter I: no more mosaic, no more gold, no more pattern. The background is a simple wall painted in glaze; the skin becomes the sole subject. The same chalky complexion, the same coral lips, the same heavy eyelids as in portraits of couples — the hand is recognizable, the setting has disappeared. Three materials respond to each other: matte black velvet, the crumpled gauze that catches the light, and the smooth skin treated with fine glazes.
Vertical format, three-quarter figure, soft frontal lighting with no cast shadow. Academic register, sober restraint.
Technical mix: acrylic painting on pigment-ink print, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of color and lasting protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: to be specified.
Signed SACHA LYS · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
SACHA LYS is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and libre figuration. Under the name BOLEROL, the Atelier explores stylized nudity in the spirit of Mexican modernity: monochrome bodies in saturated flat tones, solid and sculptural forms, backgrounds of pure color, and the grave serenity of faces.
SACHA LYS gathers an intimate portrait gallery: elongated faces, porcelain skin, coral lips, heavy eyelids, and gazes that slip out of the frame. The universe draws on Europe's cosmopolitan early 20th century — Paris, Vienna, Saint Petersburg — at the crossroads of Modigliani’s mask-like visage and Klimt’s gilded setting, treated here in a muted palette of night blue, teal, ochre, and whites of gauze.
Each work is a unique piece.
