Description from the seller
Elegant artistic manifesto depicting the famous dancers Clotilde and Alexandre Sakharoff, illustrated by the great French artist George Barbier and dated in the work 1921. The image presents a refined dance scene with two stylized figures in motion, characterized by sinuous lines and a warm color palette that perfectly expresses the Art Deco aesthetics of the early decades of the 20th century.
Note: This is a later edition probably from the 1970s.
George Barbier was one of the most important French illustrators of the Art Deco period, known for his elegant compositions related to theater, dance and Parisian fashion. The Sakharoffs, a famous avant-garde dancing couple active across Europe and Paris in the twenties, were protagonists of performances that combined modern dance, costume and artistic scenography.
The poster features at the bottom the dancers’ names and the original typography of the era, while the lower part shows the printer’s indication H. Chachoin – Paris. The image is considered one of the most iconic representations of European modernist dance and of theater graphics from the Art Deco period.
