Jules Guérin is a Belgian ceramicist from Bouffioulx, a village renowned for its centuries-old salt-fired stoneware tradition. Son of the famous Art Nouveau and Art Deco ceramicist Roger Guérin (1896-1954), and grandson of the ceramicist Willem Delsaux, he inherits a family know-how passed down for several generations.
After World War II, he took over his father's workshop and continued the technique of salt-fired stoneware grand feu: a firing at very high temperature (about 1,300 °C), to which sea salt is added to obtain a vitrified glaze, waterproof and durable.
