An attractive Chinese porcelain teapot of lobed pumpkin form, finely hand-painted in famille rose enamels with colourful cockerels, flowering plants, butterflies and insects. The elegant compressed body is surmounted by a fitted cover and retains its original swing handle with metal fittings.
The decoration is rich in traditional Chinese symbolism. The cockerels represent courage, prosperity and vigilance, while butterflies symbolize happiness and longevity.
The pumpkin-shaped body is associated with abundance, good fortune and fertility, making this a particularly charming and auspicious design.
The soft white glaze provides an excellent ground for the delicately painted enamels in shades of pink, blue, green, yellow and iron red.
