Centrepiece - Earthenware

Elegant and rare large decorative egg in glazed earthenware, polychrome painted, resting on three curved cobalt blue earthenware feet and fitted with a hinged metal mount allowing it to open.

The decoration, of great finesse, draws on japonisme aesthetics: a crane evolves amid lush vegetation on an ivory crackled background, while the egg as a whole is adorned with cherry blossom branches on a magnificent deep blue background. The enamels exhibit a superb network of natural crackles that give the piece its charm and authenticity.

The quality of the earthenware, the palette of enamels, the oriental-inspired decoration, and the metal mount evoke a production from the Manufacture de Thulin (Belgium), created during the first half of the 20th century. In the absence of a visible mark, this attribution remains prudent but appears coherent with the stylistic characteristics of the piece.

Both a jewelry box, a candy dish, and a decorative object, this egg is a refined piece that would sit perfectly in a collection of Belgian earthenwares or decorative arts.

Condition:
Very good overall condition. Some signs of use and a slight patina on the metal mount consistent with age. No chips or restorations visible. The enamel craquelure is original and contributes to the object's character.
