AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

THERE EXISTS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

With this square-format work, Medsan depicts No-Face (Kaonashi), the enigmatic spirit from Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, in the maki-e language, the Japanese lacquer art dusted with gold.

The treatment perfectly imitates the ancient urushi lacquer panel: deep black background, finely chiseled gold bamboo at the corners, gold powder and silver shards dispersed, and the creature's mask inlaid with iridescent mother-of-pearl and red features. No-Face pours a rain of gold coins, rendered in lacquer relief, while the crazed surface evokes the patina of time.

The work blends the imaginary world of Ghibli with timeless craftsmanship. No-Face, the spirit of solitude and greed that offers gold to fill a void he will never fill, takes in the nobility of lacquer a contemplative and precious dimension — material wealth facing the emptiness of the soul.

A refined and mysterious piece, ideal for adding a precious and poetic touch to a contemporary interior of a collector who loves Ghibli and Japanese art.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true artistic production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a common artistic standard and a distinct identity for each artist.
