Born in 1974 I am self-taught.
After an initial period devoted to sculpture, there was a long pause lasting almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I restarted with the “two dimensions” for reasons of time and space, leaving sculpture aside and dedicating myself to acrylic painting.
I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I have been pushing myself to paint faces of people, both imaginary and real.
For me painting is about “locking time” in that exact moment; a painting of mine is often a faded memory and therefore my works are “worn, eroded by time.” Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are wall glimpses, also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that—over time—grow on the surface.
The passage of time is the main theme of my works.
Coming from a beautiful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch, and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs clearly perceivable by touch as well as by the naked eye.
In this recent period, after several years in which my works were made from bits of recycled paper that formed figures, I am pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden discs arranged in lines and repeated grids with mathematical rigor that, when viewed up close, seem to form a colorful abstract painting but as you move away a portrait emerges from the many painted wooden discs.
Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all of my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to report that they are not their partners’ dolls and cannot be mistreated or worse, victims of violence.
