Description of the work:
A suggestive and poetic painting by the Neapolitan master Vincenzo Canino (1892-1978), representative of the Neapolitan landscape tradition of the twentieth century.
The work depicts a city view of Capua (as confirmed by the ancient autograph writings on the back). The artist captures a wide street lively with pedestrians on a dreary day, during or just after a downpour. One can notice Canino's ability to render the silvery reflections of the wet asphalt, which acts as a mirror to the light of the gloomy sky. On the right stands the mass of a church with its sail-like bell tower, while on the left the presence of telegraph poles adds a touch of lived-in modernity to the scene.
The work is presented within an antique golden wood frame, equipped with an inner burgundy velvet passepartout. Please note, for maximum transparency, that the frame shows clear signs of wear, notably a conspicuous tear and velvet fabric missing on the right side, in addition to general chipping of the wood (all clearly visible in the attached photographs). The frame is sturdy and capable of supporting the painting. However, it should be regarded as a courtesy gift accompanying the work and its defects do not constitute grounds for complaint. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
