(*) Eduardo Chillida was born in San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa), in 1924. In 1947 he created his first pieces. For two years (1948-1950) he resided in France where he exhibited for the first time. Upon returning to the Basque Country, he settled in Hernani where he produced his first iron work, "Ilarik" (1951), the material with which he would work for ten years. Around 1960 he returned to large granite sculptures. His first exhibition was presented in Madrid, in 1954; quickly more works and successes followed. He was one of the 30 creators who used fragments of the Berlin Wall as a canvas. Since 1996 he was part of the artistic advisory commission of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. One of the leading representatives of the Spanish contemporary scene alongside Tàpies, Miró, Oteiza, Saura, Palazuelo, Millares, among others. He realized the dream of having an outdoor museum. He passed away in his hometown in 2002
