AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Title: Saint Jerome

School: Italian Baroque (XVII)

Style: Baroque

Technique: Oil on canvas

Magnificent depiction of Saint Jerome, one of the Fathers of the Church, depicted as a hermit and scholar of the Sacred Scriptures. The composition shows the saint in a moment of deep reflection while holding an open book and directing his gaze to the texts he studies. His anatomy, characterized by pronounced naturalism, appears partially exposed and modeled through intense chiaroscuro that emphasizes the drama of the scene, a feature typical of Italian Baroque painting of the 17th century.

On the table are arranged various elements belonging to his traditional iconography: a book, scrolls and a skull, symbolizing the transience of life and contemplation of death, reinforcing the ascetic and contemplative character of the composition. The dark background concentrates all attention on the figure of the saint, while the directed lighting highlights the face, hands, and torso with a marked tenebrist influence.

The work presents careful brushwork and excellent volumetric construction, especially highlighting the treatment of the skin, the beard, and the folds of the mantle, elements that provide great expressive force and psychological depth to the character.

It has undergone restorations.

Observations:
The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In such a case, we will need photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.

Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an extra charge for reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excess dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not be responsible for this surcharge in any case.

Due to problems at the border with Switzerland we are obliged to inform that shipments with more than 1 meter in length or height to that destination will not be carried out.

Because of the high volume of shipments, it is possible that the order may be delayed more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about your order please contact us via internal messaging.
