Didier Groffier (1912-1979) is a Belgian painter who was born in Liège, but spent most of his life living and working in the Brussels area.

He was a pupil of, among others, Jean Delville (a leading figure of Belgian Symbolism), Albert Bastien, Paul Mathieu and Guillaume Van Strydonck.

Groffier is art-historically spoken of in the same breath as major Belgian luminists such as Émile Claus and Théo van Rysselberghe because of his ability to capture atmospheric light.

His work focuses strongly on the subtle effects of light and atmosphere.

He played an active role in Brussels' artistic association life as a core member of the Art Circle of Schaerbeek and the artists' group Évolution in Anderlecht. Together with his brother, the well-known poet and writer Jean Groffier, and artists such as Marcel Hastir and Léon Van Dievoet, he formed part of the influential intellectual and artistic avant-garde circle around the magazine Tribune.

His big breakthrough exhibition took place after an intensive year-long stay in the Belgian Ardennes and the Condroz, where he studied the natural light incidence.

Groffier's paintings are in private collections, but also in public collections, such as the Municipal Art Collection of Schaerbeek and the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR).
