Description from the seller
Egermann – Large Karo Art Glass Vase – Light Purple / Amethyst – 30 cm – Handmade Bohemian Glass
Description
An impressive handmade Bohemian art glass vase by Egermann, produced in the traditional glassmaking region of Nový Bor (Haida), Czech Republic.
The vase has an elegant elongated silhouette and a beautiful light purple / amethyst colour. Its surface features the distinctive Karo optical structure, creating a fascinating play of light, reflections and different shades of purple.
Depending on the surrounding light, the glass changes from delicate violet and amethyst tones to much deeper purple shades.
The vase still bears its original Egermann label, clearly visible on the body.
The Egermann tradition
The name Egermann belongs to the historic tradition of Bohemian glassmaking and is closely associated with Friedrich Egermann (1777–1864), one of the important innovators of 19th-century Bohemian glass.
Egermann worked in the Nový Bor / Haida glassmaking region, an area internationally renowned for its glass production, decorating and refinement techniques.
Friedrich Egermann became particularly famous for his experiments with glass colouring and decoration. His name is especially associated with the development and refinement of techniques such as coloured glass stains and the celebrated red staining known as “Egermann Red.”
His work helped establish the Egermann name as part of the heritage of Bohemian decorative glass. The later Egermann glass tradition continued in Nový Bor, combining historic craftsmanship with new shapes, colours and decorative techniques.
This vase represents that continuing tradition: handmade Czech glass, strong colour, substantial form and distinctive surface decoration.
