Authentic vintage ship’s masthead lantern manufactured by Perko / Perkins Marine Lamp & Hardware Corporation in Brooklyn, New York, USA.
The lantern is made of brass and fitted with its original thick, clear curved Fresnel lens. The flat, enclosed back and curved lens were designed to project the navigation light over a forward arc. The original, though faded, PERKO manufacturer’s plaque is still present on the front.
Based on the company name and Brooklyn address on the plaque, the lantern can be dated to approximately 1932–1960.
The lantern was later converted for electric use and can therefore also be used as an atmospheric interior lamp. The electrical components are later additions and should be inspected before use.
The brass has developed an attractive, authentic patina, with oxidation, scratches, small dents and other traces consistent with its age and former maritime use. The Fresnel lens appears to be intact. The removable top cover is included.
A decorative and increasingly sought-after piece of genuine maritime equipment, particularly attractive because of its large Fresnel lens, original Perko maker’s plaque and untouched patina.
