Description from the seller
Exclusive design chess set – Pierson, Heldring & Pierson – corporate gift – ca. 1985-1995
Special and presumably rare luxury chess set produced as an exclusive corporate gift for Pierson, Heldring & Pierson, the former Dutch investment bank.
The chessboard consists of a heavy base with a natural stone/granite decor, covered by a thick transparent acrylic plate. The white squares are printed with the names of international financial centers and major world cities, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Paris, Geneva, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Curaçao, Aruba, Bahamas and St. Maarten.
The chess pieces are made of solid transparent acrylic with stylized chess symbols in white and red, giving the whole piece a distinctive eighties/nineties look.
According to the previous owner, this piece was originally intended as a corporate gift for Freddy Heineken. However, there is no written documentation for this; the provenance is therefore mentioned here as an oral tradition.
A striking Dutch design object that will appeal to both collectors of luxury chess sets and enthusiasts of Dutch banking history and corporate gifts.
Chessboard itself: 27x27
Full board: 35x35
