When Seiko launched the Astron GPS Solar in 2012, it revived a name that had already made history: the original Astron of 1969 was the first quartz wristwatch in the world. The modern interpretation is just as ambitious, using solar power and a GPS receiver to set itself to the correct time and time zone anywhere on earth at the touch of a button. This example carries the calibre 7X52 in a substantial stainless steel case topped by a black ceramic bezel engraved with the world time zone scale. The dark dial is layered with a power reserve indicator, a DST and reception indicator, a 24 hour subdial at 6 and a date at 3, with applied markers picked out in bright blue. It is fitted on its black silicone strap with a signed Seiko buckle.
