AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful set of two large, traditional Balinese wall panels (reliefs), handcrafted by hand from a single piece of wood and vividly polychrome-painted. This type of woodcarving is known as 'dragon boat art' and traditionally served as a decorative arch over doorways or as wall decoration.

The first panel shows an asymmetrical composition of a holy Melasti procession. A centrally placed horseman is accompanied by ceremonial bearers with offerings, instruments, and ritual parasols (Pajeng). The procession stands on the scaled body of a mythical dragon (Naga) with an expressive, detailed head on the left side.

The second panel presents a symmetrical design with the heads of two protective Naga dragons on either side (one red and one green/blue). In between is a row of eight identical figures in traditional dress, with hands folded in the respectful Anjali Mudra (prayer greeting) and endowed with radiant golden halos. This panel symbolizes spiritual protection and harmony.

Both panels are in good vintage condition with a beautifully patinated color palette (red, green, black and gold accents) and normal, characteristic signs of aging that contribute to the authentic look.

At the back there is a wire-iron hanging system.

Condition:
Good condition with light signs of use and age. Light wear to the paint and to the goldwork, with small scratches and light cracks in the wood that are appropriate for authentic woodcarving from the region.

Dimensions:
Panel 1 (procession with horse): Height: 29 cm x Width: 98.5 cm x Depth: 3 cm (Weight: 2.7 kg).
Panel 2 (eight figures with Nagas): Height: 34.5 cm x Width: 97 cm x Depth: 2 cm (Weight: 1.7 kg).

The lot is carefully packed and shipped via registered, insured mail with a tracking number.
Pickup by arrangement also possible.
