Description from the seller
Important navette-shaped centerpiece with its original lid, made of Italian artistic majolica in the traditional Capodimonte style. The piece features an exuberant Neo-Baroque decoration with serpentine forms.
The body and the lid are richly adorned with cherubs (putti) carved in high relief. The lid depicts a lively allegorical scene in a natural landscape, including a cherub musician playing a lute and aquatic motifs of golden fish. The ensemble is crowned by a superb in-the-round sculpted figure depicting a seated young child. The piece benefits from hand-painted polychromy, generous gold leaf highlights, and a rocaille-style undulating socle.
State: Very good overall condition. Note a single tiny superficial chip on one of the volute ends (see detail photo), with no impact on aesthetics or the piece’s solidity. Normal wear to the gilding in places. No cracks, no major losses, nor restorations. The cut socle is completely intact and original.
International shipping is particularly careful, with reinforced protective packaging.
Summary:
Condition: Good overall condition
Age: 1950 - 1970
Material: Ceramic
Origin: Italy - Capodimonte
Dimensions: 20.6 cm high, 26 cm wide by 14.8 cm deep
Colours: Multicoloured with gold highlights – Neo-Baroque style
