Table lamp - Metal, Crystal - Neoclassical Revival

Magnificent quinqué-style lamp (kerosene lamp) of French manufacture, dating from the mid-20th century.

The lamp rests on a stepped circular base that supports a flattened spherical body.

The central perforated column with geometric motifs or ogival “windows.” In authentic quinqués, these openings allowed oxygen to enter to feed the flame; here they serve a purely aesthetic function and as ventilation for the heat of the bulb.

The upper ring with manual clamping screws to firmly fix the neck of the glass tulip shade.

The main material is turned and polished brass, presenting a natural patina with an attractive mottled oxidation and signs of wear, which give it that spectacular authentic look.

A notable feature is the decorative butterfly key or side wing nut on the fake burner, an excellent nod to the original keys used in the 19th century to regulate the height of the cotton wick.

Crowning the piece is the spherical globe of white opal glass (or opalescent). This type of glass was preferred in antique lighting because it diffuses light evenly, avoiding direct glare from the bulb.
