CLIFFS
95 x 70 cm
Acrylic on canvas · 2026
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
Cliffs presents a coastal landscape viewed from the prow of a vessel advancing between towering cliffs and open waters. The composition uses the boat in the foreground as an entry point to the scene, while the rock formations, cypresses, and the coastline lead the gaze toward the background. The perspective creates a clear sense of movement and depth, reinforced by the horizon opening and the expanse of the sky.
The work stands out for the contrast between the blues and turquoises of the water and the landscape, the intense greens of the vegetation, and the warm tones of the boat. The palette transforms the scene into a luminous and slightly idealized vision, where the journey becomes an essential part of the visual experience. More than describing a specific place, Cliffs proposes an image of displacement, discovery, and contemplation of the landscape.
PROJECTION AND VALUE OF THE WORK
Cliffs is part of a line of work in which Mar Legón explores coastal landscapes, journeys, and water-related scenes through expressive use of color and formal simplification. The work stands out for its ability to integrate landscape and movement into a composition with strong visual presence, where the viewer’s gaze sits within the experience of travel itself.
This is a unique piece, made entirely by hand in 2026, that gathers some central traits of the artist’s recent production: the protagonism of color, the construction of depth through successive planes, and the transformation of recognizable settings into images that oscillate between observation, memory, and imagination.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mar Legón develops a pictorial practice focused on reinterpretations of landscapes, interiors, still lifes, and figurative scenes through a visual language based on color, formal synthesis, and the creation of atmospheres.
Her work transforms spaces and recognizable motifs into images of strong visual intensity, where reality is simplified and reorganized to give rise to scenes that oscillate between memory, imagination, and contemplation.
