Contemporanea is an original oil painting on cardboard by B.Mallow (XXI), 2024, Italy, in a contemporary style, measuring 65 cm high by 40.5 cm wide, hand-signed and in good condition.
Description from the seller
It is an original painting on cardboard, executed in oil painting technique, with a figurative and expressive approach. The work features a female figure represented from the waist up, seated and resting against a surface, while gazing serenely to the side. The treatment of the figure is marked by visible, spontaneous, gestural brushstrokes, creating a sense of movement and pictorial intensity.
The composition is distinguished by a strong contrast between the warm tones used to depict the body and face and the turquoise-blue background, applied in a free and irregular manner. The face, particularly expressive, is built through color patches and bold lines that define the profile, the eyes, the lips and the contours of the face. The hair is worked with vigorous brushstrokes in dark tones, purples, bluish and reddish hues, contributing to the contemporary and spontaneous character of the work.
The figure is naked from the waist up, wearing only a necklace of small golden beads, while holding or leaning on a structure that occupies the lower part of the composition. A white flower, resembling a lily, crosses diagonally the composition from the lower area up to the figure’s shoulder, creating an interesting visual line and adding a symbolic and delicate element to the whole. At the bottom, there is also a surface painted with several colors, predominantly greens, blues, ochers and yellows, worked with thick, overlapped brushstrokes.
The painting presents a very free language, close to a contemporary expressionist approach, valuing more the force of the brushstroke, the color and the expression of the figure than an academic or photographic representation. The small imperfections of the support, the cardboard areas left visible, and the irregular application of the paint are an integral part of the work’s character and reinforce its appearance as an original, spontaneous art piece.
In the lower right corner there is an inscription made in red, apparently a signature or attribution of the author along with the date “2024”, an element that could be particularly relevant for cataloging the piece. The work is mounted/presented directly on cardboard, without a visible frame in photographs, and shows signs characteristic of the manual process and the support used.
It is a decorative and artistic piece, with a strong visual presence, suitable for a collection of contemporary painting or a space that favors figurative works of free expression. The combination of the female figure, the turquoise background, the white flower, and the intense palette creates a composition of great impact, while the gestural execution gives the work a distinct personality."
