Description from the seller
Refined antique set consisting of an elegant candlestick and two service cups/bowls crafted by the historic Austrian manufactory Arthur Krupp Berndorf between the 1910s and 1920s.
The objects are made of silvered alpacca (Alpacca Silber), a material widely used in high-end productions intended for major European hotels and luxury dining in the early 20th century. The Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik Arthur Krupp manufactory was indeed one of the most prestigious Austro-Hungarian producers of tableware and decorative objects, famed for the quality of its workmanship and for supplies to hotels, ocean liners, and prestigious residences.
The candlestick features a slender, elegant line, characterized by sober and harmonious shapes reminiscent of Viennese Secession style with proto Art Deco influences. At the base there is the prestigious engraving “Palace Hotel Naples,” a historically fascinating and collecting element that attests to the provenance from an important Neapolitan hotel of the era.
The paired cups/show a functional yet refined design, typical of Central European production destined for luxury hotel industry of the early 20th century. One has elegant side stylized handles, while the other is characterized by a more essential and classic line.
Objects of pronounced decorative and collectible value, ideal for collectors of hotel silverware, Austro-Hungarian design, and early 20th-century decorative arts.
