Maya Wildevuur (1944-2023) - Meisje met rode strik

Beautiful watercolor by Maya Wildevuur from 1986 titled Girl with a Red Bow. The watercolor is 36 cm high, 51 cm wide, and is in excellent condition. The work is signed on both the front and the back. On the front in ink: M.L. Wildevuur 1986, and on the back in pencil: Girl with a Red Bow - Maya Wildevuur 1986. Maya Wildevuur (Deventer, July 24, 1944 – Midwolda, April 11, 2023) was a Dutch textile artist and painter. Wildevuur studied at the Academy for Art and Industry in Enschede. She first lived for several years in Enschede and became especially known in the 1980s, 1980–1985, for her 'silk collages,' inspired by English landscapes. The silk technique she used in her early works conveyed both simplicity and complexity. As a result, she gained wide recognition in the Netherlands and abroad. Later she also adopted other techniques, but her style remained consistently recognizable. Maya Wildevuur’s work is characterized by the use of strong contrasting color accents, clean but sometimes quirky shapes, and emotion, though the latter is not always immediately evident. In her later years she worked with various styles and techniques. Maya Wildevuur mainly painted flowers, landscapes, and sometimes animals, but she also became known for her characteristic portraits of celebrities in a very distinctive style. She died on April 11, 2023 in her hometown Midwolda at the age of 78. She was buried there on April 18.
