Exceptional collection of 14 original issues of Dvar HaShavua (דבר השבוע), an illustrated weekly published historically in Tel-Aviv on the eve and at the moment of the birth of the State of Israel. Especially evocative of the year 1948, it brings together numerous period photographs devoted to the War of Independence, to the fighters of the Yishuv, to the mobilization of the population, to women engaged in the war effort, to daily life, to infrastructure, to transportation, to popular gatherings and to political events of the early months of the State.

These fascicles constitute a direct photographic testimony to a foundational period in the history of Zionism and Israel: the end of the British Mandate, the struggle for independence, the proclamation of the State, the organization of new institutions and the rapid transformation of Jewish Palestine into a sovereign state. The covers, highly visual, feature emblematic scenes of that era: soldiers and volunteers, young fighters, defense of positions, military vehicles, riders, motorcyclists, workers, families and scenes of public rejoicing.

Beyond their editorial interest, these issues carry significant documentary and iconographic value. They preserve the immediate outlook of Hebrew illustrated press on the events of 1948 and offer a collection of historical photographs related to the beginnings of the State of Israel and the history of the Zionist movement.
