I am putting up for sale the original edition (1969) of Rigodon, Louis Ferdinand Céline's final novel, published by Gallimard/N.R.F. (Printed and bound, finished on February 19, 1969 at Imprimerie Floch in Mayenne, format in-8, soft cover).
An exceptional historical provenance: the front free endpaper of this copy contains a long handwritten note with a scalpel, signed by Jean Choisel himself.
Jean Choisel is a well-known figure in Céline's postwar clandestine publishing history; he had a serious falling-out with the writer in the late 1940s after attempting to publish his pamphlets clandestinely. Céline harshly rejected him in private correspondence, calling him a crook. In 1969, at the time of Rigodon's publication, Choisel took up his pen to vent his bitterness at the legal success of the widow and of the official publisher. For bibliophilic precision, here is the exact transcription of the text present in the book:
" A trap ******** - fake Céline - the poor man did not write a single line, fraud, breach of trust, publisher ******, poor little Madame Destouches who sold her husband for a few bills, a misfortune to which she is subject. "
