COLLECTION OF 7 PHARMACY AND APOTHECARY JARS – LIMOGES PORCELAIN AND DECORATED FAIENCE – FRANCE, 20th CENTURY
Beautiful decorative set consisting of seven covered jars from a French pharmacy and apothecary, made of Limoges porcelain and enameled faience.
Each jar bears the name of an old medicinal preparation:
– Cinabre Pills
– Capuchin Powder
– Pom. Antipsor.
– Flor. Sulfur
– Indian Hemp
– Ong. Napol.
– Populeum
The collection brings together several models and designs: polychrome cartouches, painted floral motifs, Rouen-style lambrequins, gilded highlights, and ancient pharmaceutical inscriptions.
The jar “Chanvre indien” (Indian hemp), with a height of 30 cm, bears under the base the mark Pofarma, Limoges France, Exclusive.
The jars “Pilules de cinabre” and “Poudre des Capucins” bear a Limoges mark “Au Pot de Galien – Exclusive.”
The two polychrome jars “Pom. Antipsor.” and “Flor. Sulfur,” 25 cm tall, feature a painted decor in the tradition of French faience.
The jar “Ong. Napol.”, 25 cm high, is adorned with two snakes entwining a bowl, a pink ribbon, and gilded highlights.
The large jar “Populeum” presents a polychrome floral decor on a white background, outlined with blue borders.
French decorative works of the 20th century, inspired by historic apothecary jars. These are not pharmaceutical jars from the 18th or 19th centuries.
CONDITION
Good overall condition for the set. The lids are present.
The jar “Populeum” shows chips visible on the blue knop of its lid as well as some signs of use. These defects are noted and will be shown precisely in the photographs.
Light signs of age, minor manufacturing irregularities, or wear to the decorations may be present on the various pieces. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description.
The jars are sold empty and exclusively as collectible and decorative objects.
Especially decorative ensemble for a pharmacy, a medical office, a curiosity cabinet, or a collection devoted to the history of apothecary.
Carefully packed individual packaging, with double protection, considering the number and fragility of the pieces.
