Aldo Borgonzoni (1913-2004) - Cardinali

Hand-painted graphic by Aldo Borgonzoni, a prominent exponent of Italian realism and expressionism of the second half of the twentieth century. The work belongs to the famous and historicized cycle of the 'Cardinals' (or Council Fathers), started by the artist in the early 1960s in conjunction with and under the impulse of the Second Vatican Council.

The work is a study in which the Bolognese master has integrated the lithographic mark with color washes and manual variations (as stated in the annotation "colore a mano" visible at the margin), elevating it to the status of a unique piece or artist's variant.
