Bartolomeo Eustachi

Tabulae anatomicae.

Beautiful and rare edition, printed in Rome, published by S. Laurentius & Th. Pagliarini in the year 1728.

Second Rome edition, for the first time with the portrait of Cardinal Albano.

The anatomical plates of Bartolommeo Eustachi were completed in 1552, but lay forgotten and unpublished in the Vatican, until Pope Clement XI entrusted them to his personal physician Lancisi for publication, who first published them in 1714. The plates show among other things the thorax, the nervous system, various organs and vascular structures.

Bound in an interim paper-backed binding of the period. With engraved title vignette, engraved dedication portrait, and 47 copper plates.

COLLATION: 28 roman numerals 79 pp., 5 unnumbered leaves.

CONDITION: Good copy with signs of wear, good binding. Slight foxing, cover rubbed and lightly stained. Overall a beautiful clean untrimmed copy. PROVENANCE: With engraved ex-libris of Friedrich August von Braunschweig-(Wolfenbüttel)-Oels (1740-1804).
