Artur Dudek - Blood Candy Girl

Independent sculpture made of stainless steel, built from hundreds of manually joined flat rings. The individual elements were precisely fused using the TIG method, creating an openwork, spatial form with an organic silhouette.

After finishing the welding process, the surface was properly cleaned and prepared for a multi-layer finish. The sculpture was coated with a three-layer Candy Blood Red coating. A characteristic feature of this type of finish is its color variability — depending on the angle of light incidence, the surface shifts from deep red and burgundy, through cherry hues, to intense, almost metallic reflections.

The openwork construction means the sculpture is not a closed block. Light penetrates through its structure, casting on the substrate characteristic shadows composed of repeating circles. This gives the work a changing appearance with lighting and the observer’s point of view — its form remains in continual dialogue between matter, light, and space.

The contrast between the rawness of steel, the precision of welding, and the intense, multi-layer Candy Blood Red coating gives the piece a contemporary, striking character. The repetition of rings builds a rhythm, while their spatial arrangement creates an impression of lightness and an almost “floating” construction.

Artur Dudek (b. 1985) is a Polish artist creating contemporary steel sculptures. In his work, he focuses on exploring the relationships between matter, form, light, and space, employing metal to build organic and sensuous structures.

A characteristic element of his works are flat metal rings, from which the artist manually constructs three-dimensional, openwork forms. Individual elements are joined by TIG welding, then thoroughly cleaned and finished. This process preserves the precision of the construction while giving each work its own character.

Light plays a significant role in Dudek’s sculptures. The openwork structure allows light to pass through the form, creating changing shadows and reflections. As a result, the reception of the piece depends not only on its shape but also on the location from which it is viewed and the lighting conditions.

The artist also experiments with color finishing of surfaces. In the presented work, a three-layer Candy Blood Red coating was applied, giving the color exceptional depth and changing its character depending on the intensity and angle of light — from deep burgundy to bright, glowing red.

Dudek’s creative output combines technical precision with artistic intuition. Industrial material, stainless steel, is transformed into a visually light, organic form. The repetition of rings creates rhythm and structure, while the spaces between them give the sculpture lightness and allow it to engage in dialogue with its surroundings.

An important element of the artist’s body of work is the participation of his sculpture in the non-competitive exhibition of the 49th Interdisciplinary Visual Arts Competition of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship “Przedwiośnie” at the Bureau of Artistic Exhibitions in Kielce in 2026. Presenting the work at BWA Kielce represents an important stage in the development of his artistic career.

Artur Dudek consistently develops his own sculptural language, based on the fusion of geometry, organic form, rhythm, light, and metal. His works are produced as authorial, handmade objects in which technology and craft become tools for conscious artistic expression.
