Description:
A large-scale abstract work by German artist Hannah Bielecki, based in Cologne and trained in painting at Alanus University (MA, 2017). "The Fox" is Bielecki's abstract response to the famous "fox chapter" from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince — the passage on taming, patience, and what it means to truly see something.
The canvas moves from a burnt orange and ochre ground into a dense, glowing core of blues, greens, violets, and neon highlights, built up through Bielecki's characteristic process: laying down colour fields only to partially conceal them again moments later, creating narrative and form out of abstraction rather than depiction. Her palette sits between dark reverie and bright, neon-lit drama, punctuated with small points of light. Nothing in the composition is arbitrary — the apparent spontaneity is tightly controlled, drawing the eye in, only to unsettle its first reading and pull it toward something else half-hidden beneath. The result is a painting that resists a single, settled interpretation, rewarding sustained looking rather than a quick glance.
Executed in 2018 using tempera, pigment, pastel, and acrylic on canvas, the work is hand signed by the artist and in excellent condition.
