Description from the seller
An extraordinary and unique bibliophile collector’s item combining rare literature and high-end craftmanship. This auction features the german anthology of aphorisms, “Gendanken sin Krafte” (Thoughts are Forces), compiled by Maria March and published by the renowned Philipp Reclam Jun. from Stuttgart. What makes this specific volume an absolute unicum is it’s the magnificent, custom-made leather binding, sumptuously embellished with an authentic, highly detailed antique silver heraldic medaillon/fob on the front cover. Central motif is a beautifully patinated silver shield in the Victorian/Edwardian style featuring the deeply engraved latin motto: ‘’IN LIBRIS FONS”(In books lies the source / fountain of knowledge). The silver centerpiece is meticulously set with three grnuine, natural gemstones polished as smooth cabochons, 1 rare translucent green natural moldavite integrated into the upper hanging loop and 2 vivid red natural rubies set in dedicated circular bezels flanking the base of the shield. Although the book is detached from the cover, it is still complete and without cuts or folds
A perfect centerpiece for collectors of rare bookbindings, esoteric literature, or unique curiosity pieces.
