Val Saint Lambert P.U. – hand-cut crystal vase with emerald green double layer – Belgium – circa 1950–1960
Object description
Very attractive and elaborately executed crystal vase from Val Saint Lambert, Belgium, made in clear crystal with a deep emerald green doublé.
The vase has an elegant, outward-flaring shape and is richly and deeply faceted all around. The decor consists of strong vertical facets, geometric diamond shapes and star-shaped facets. By locally cutting away the green doublé to reveal the clear crystal, the characteristic cut-to-clear effect is created.
Especially around the middle section, the emerald green crystal forms a strong contrast with the transparent faceted surfaces. The various facets create beautiful reflections and prismatic color effects when light hits them.
The broad upper portion is constructed from regularly distributed cut segments. From above, the complex radial structure of the facets is also clearly visible.
On the underside is the hand-engraved inscription:
“Val St Lambert”
“P.U.”
The designation P.U. stands for “Pièce Unique” and was used at Val Saint Lambert for individually produced pieces.
With a weight of just over 1.2 kg and a height of only 15.4 cm, this is a notably heavy and substantial crystal object.
