ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Frank "Shepard Fairey" is a very famous graphic artist, muralist and general artist. He was born on February 15, 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. In 1988 the artist graduated from the Idyllwild Arts Academy in Palm Springs, California. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island in 1992.
As a young adult, Shepard Fairey became deeply interested in art. He soon started using his drawings on T‑shirts and skateboards. He was a skateboard-obsessed art student. While he was in school, he had a part-time job in a skateboard shop. Soon thereafter he made a strong impact on the skateboard community by plastering homemade stickers everywhere. At that moment he realized his desire and interest in street art culture and the graffiti movement. Another strong influence was his love for punk music, for which he demonstrated stencils.
One of the first images he ever used was that of André the Giant. Shepard Fairey found this image in a newspaper advertisement and chose to introduce it on the street.
Shepard Fairey is one of the most influential street artists of our time. Fairey’s work has been used in silkscreens, stencils, stickers, masking‑film illustrations, wheatpaste, collages, sculptures, posters, paintings and murals.
