Jokic was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2014, where he would function as a center. In the 2018/2019 season he was selected for the NBA All-Star Game for the first time. Later in the season he helped the Denver Nuggets reach the conference finals. Together with veteran Paul Millsap and his close ally Jamal Murray, with whom Jokic specialized in the pick-and-roll, they lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in a decisive Game 7. Led by Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers advanced to the Finals.

Jokić grew into the Nuggets’ marquee star and was named NBA MVP in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. His versatility was particularly valued. Jokic did not excel in just one aspect of basketball, but posted high statistics across multiple areas—scoring, rebounds and assists—simultaneously. He led his team in 2022/23 to the first title in the Western Conference and thus the club’s first NBA Finals in its history. He shone there as well. Jokic and the Nuggets were 4–1 over the Miami Heat and became NBA champions for the first time. The Serbian himself was named Finals MVP. In the 2022/23 season Jokic became the first player ever to record the most points (600), the most rebounds (269) and the most assists (190) of anyone in the playoffs. Additionally, he completed ten triple-doubles during the playoffs, which was also a record.
