Sixta 18k yellow gold Savonette pocket watch with a double case, 50 mm case diameter, manual-winding movement, 68 g total weight, outer covers stamped 18k/750, in very good cosmetic condition with minimal wear and in working order; ships insured.
Description from the seller
Splendid double-cased pocket watch (Savonette) in 18k yellow gold (0.750) manual-wind, from the Art Deco period (circa the 1920s/1930s).
The dial is a small masterpiece of period aesthetics, made of metal with a refined central guilloché texture, clearly legible Arabic numerals, and original blued-steel hands. It is in excellent cosmetic condition and free of oxidation.
The Swiss movement is of excellent manufacture, stamped "Chronomètre Sixta" on the dial. On the inner cover (gold-plated metal cap) are engraved the premium technical specifications: precision anchor escapement, no fewer than 15 jewels, and the renowned Breguet hairspring which guarantees excellent running consistency. The original crystal has been replaced over time with a Plexiglas, a classic protective modification.
Conditions and Defects:
Mechanics: The watch has been wound and runs regularly, keeping time.
Case: Both outer covers (front and back) and the dust cover are stamped 18k/750 gold. Total weight of the watch: 68 grams.
Reported defect: One of the covers currently does not snap shut due to normal loosening of the gold lip or hinge from age. A defect easily fixable by an experienced case maker or watchmaker.
Glass: The original period crystal has been replaced with Plexiglas. The replacement is stable and consistent with the watch’s curvature, but it is not the original mineral crystal.
The watch is sold in the condition visible in the photos, an exceptional collectible piece both for the intrinsic gold value and for the quality of the mechanical movement.
