Description from the seller
In Red Sun, Raphaël Le Falher creates a quiet yet deeply unsettling landscape in which the human figure becomes almost inseparable from its surroundings. A solitary figure sits folded into itself, wrapped in a heavy red garment that appears to extend across the earth like an organic form.
Above, a muted sky unfolds in layers of dusty rose, grey and blue, interrupted by a perfectly defined red sun. Its almost unnatural stillness creates a tension between the softness of the landscape and the psychological weight of the figure below.
The painting speaks to Le Falher’s recurring interest in inner confinement and the difficulty of inhabiting oneself. The body is present, but withdrawn, curled inward as though seeking protection from the vastness surrounding it. There is something both vulnerable and otherworldly in the scene, where colour, scale and atmosphere transform an ordinary human gesture into something closer to a dream.

Raphaël Le Falher
Born in Nantes, France, in 1992, Raphaël Le Falher graduated from the Pivaut School of Nantes in 2019 with a degree in Illustration.
His practice is rooted in a longstanding fascination with the fantastic and the psychological worlds it can evoke. Beginning with drawing and gradually moving into painting, Le Falher has developed a distinctive visual language in which reality is subtly unsettled, giving form to imagined spaces that exist somewhere between the familiar and the otherworldly.
At the centre of his work is the human body. Rendered with an academic sensitivity and informed by a deep understanding of classical figuration, the body is often altered, stretched or distorted, becoming a vessel through which more intangible states can be expressed.
Le Falher’s paintings explore the experience of inner blockage, the difficulty of being, and the sensation of confinement within oneself. His figures appear caught between physical presence and psychological tension, their bodies carrying a quiet sense of unease, vulnerability and introspection.
His visual vocabulary emerges from a dialogue between classical and contemporary influences. The traditions of artists such as William Adolphe Bouguereau and Caravaggio meet the darker, fantastical worlds of Frank Frazetta and Zdzisław Beksiński. The result is a body of work that combines technical discipline with an unsettling, dreamlike sensibility, where the human figure becomes a space in which the complexities of the inner world can unfold.
