Vrouw met kind, an un-signed oil painting in a Classical Dutch genre scene from 1910–1920, oil on canvas, Netherlands, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Atmospheric and intimate Dutch genre scene, executed in oil on canvas. The painting shows a classic peasant interior. We see a woman busy with handiwork (mother) by the incoming daylight from a window, accompanied by a young child who plays on the floor with a wooden horse and wagon. This type of domestic interior scenes was particularly beloved around the late 19th and early 20th centuries and was frequently practiced by masters of the Larense and Haagse School, such as Bernard de Hoog, Evert Pieters and Albert Neuhuys. This specific work breathes exactly that same warm, nostalgic atmosphere and shows a beautiful sense of chiaroscuro (light-dark contrast) and texture.
