Description from the seller

Original work by Wags. Halfway between vintage advertising and surrealist scene, this series distorts iconic objects and products of our daily life to tip them into a world as seductive as it is improbable.
Over-sized, diverted from their function and confronted with the female figure, these familiar objects become decor, furniture, or playgrounds.
The glamour aesthetic of post-war advertising thus meets the absurd in images that are deliberately immediate, light, and offbeat.
A playful homage to these objects so familiar that they have come to belong to our collective imagination.

Biography :

Wags, born in Paris in 1970, embodies the journey of a polymorphic artist whose creativity has unfolded from electronic music to contemporary graphic art. Coming from a family where art was already present thanks to his father, a draftsman, Wags discovers very young his first passion, music creation. This passion guides him in his youth, and his precocious talents lead him to make a bold decision: to invest the money destined to fund his higher education in the creation of his first album.

Distributed by EMI, the album does not meet the anticipated success, but it marks the beginning of a rich artistic career full of experimentation.

Paralleling his musical career, Wags enters the world of advertising as a designer/writer for the emblematic magazine Playboy. For many years, he puts his creativity at the service of the publication by creating and producing the magazine’s advertising campaigns.

The turning point in his career comes in 2005 when he becomes a cameraman, thus exploring a new facet of the visual world. In 2007, he discovers a passion for photography, adding another artistic string to his bow. In 2010, he successfully founds his own photo agency, highlighting his entrepreneurial spirit.

In 2017, Wags makes a radical choice to sell his agency in order to fully embrace graphic art, influenced by his son, who has become a major figure in global street art. A pioneer of computer-assisted art creation, Wags stands out with more than 3000 works sold in galleries and online to date.

Wanting to explore new artistic universes, Wags is none other than Kobalt who signs under this pseudonym so as not to interfere with his usual work.

This contemporary figurative painting draws inspiration from classical realism and a glamorous modern aesthetic. Collectors who appreciate the light of Joaquín Sorolla, the mastery of Anders Zorn, the elegance of John Singer Sargent, as well as the worlds of Richard S. Johnson, Pino Daeni, Jack Vettriano, Fabian Perez and Jeremy Lipking will find in this work an atmosphere and treatment of light that are familiar to them.
