Description from the seller

Elegant tableware set consisting of 8 place settings, produced by Spode Copeland in white ceramic, decorated in cobalt blue on a white ground according to the tradition of the famous English transfer-print productions.

The service features a refined decoration named "Spode's Tower" with romantically styled landscapes depicting buildings, bridges, waterways and trees, enclosed within rich floral and geometric borders. The central motif is framed by an intensely blue band adorned with small flowers and ornamental motifs, while the shaped and slightly wavy edges confer on the pieces a particular elegance.

The "Spode's Tower" pattern was introduced in 1814 and derives from an illustration printed in Merigot's book "Views of Rome and its Vicinity" published circa 1796-1798. The tower depicts the Salaro Bridge, near Rome. The bridge, which originally had a pier built over it, now lies beneath the main road leading from Rome to the airport.

The service well represents the taste of English tableware of the 17th–19th century tradition, particularly appreciated for the transfer-printing technique and for the use of the characteristic cobalt blue. The decoration recalls the great tradition of English and Oriental blue-and-white wares.

These small dishes can be used in many ways.

Excellent condition.

Diameter about 8 cm.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
