Unclassified chondrite, found in the Sahara of Northwest Africa. Chondrites are the oldest rocks in our solar system: they contain chondrules, small melted spheres that formed about 4.56 billion years ago in the solar nebula from which Earth also formed. This makes the fragment older than our own planet.
The meteorite shows a naturally weathered surface with local remnants of the melt crust that formed during the fiery passage through the atmosphere. Unclassified means that the specimen has not been laboratory-tested and catalogued; it is almost certainly a common chondrite (type H, L or LL), the most common class of stony meteorites from the Sahara.
