Description from the seller
ItItem Description
An elegant Aizu lacquerware (Aizu-nuri) fubako (letter/document box) by Shunpō (春峰作), beautifully decorated with a graceful Tessen (Clematis) design executed in maki-e on a deep black urushi lacquer ground.
Aizu-nuri, produced in Fukushima Prefecture, is one of Japan's most celebrated lacquerware traditions, renowned for its durable lacquer finish and refined decorative techniques. This piece exemplifies the elegance and craftsmanship associated with this historic tradition.
The flowing vine and blossom are rendered with refined gold and soft color gradations, creating a sophisticated and understated composition. The flower is further accented with an iridescent inlay at its center, adding depth and brilliance to the design. A red artist's seal is incorporated into the decoration, completing the composition.
The interior is finished in glossy black lacquer, emphasizing the clean and elegant appearance.
The size is ideal for storing postcards, letters, photographs, or other small documents, making it both decorative and functional.
The box is accompanied by its original tomobako (signed wooden storage box), which is inscribed with the maker's name Shunpō (春峰作) and identifies the piece as traditional Aizu lacquerware.
The lacquer surface remains glossy and presents well. Please examine the photographs carefully for the overall condition and signs of age and use.
