Pillbox - .950 silver - Henin & Co. (1875-1901)

Beautiful French oval silver pill box, decorated with a finely chased rose motif with rays on the lid and a garland or leaf border along the sides.

Such boxes were historically often used as snuff boxes, pill boxes, or for storing other small curiosities.

Manufactured by the French silver-smith Henin & Cie (1875-1901), 77 Rue des Archives, Paris.

This box would date from around 1900.

Silver mark “Minerva” and master mark.

The hinge needs to be repaired but the box closes perfectly.

After decades of careful collecting, I have decided to part with (part of) my collection. I want these special objects to have a place with a new enthusiast who understands the value of historic preservation. It is time these pieces receive the attention they deserve so that they are preserved for the distant future as well.
