Description from the seller
越前漆Echizen Urushi Lacquer Peony 沈金Chinkin 文庫Bunko – Handcrafted Vintage – by Tomita Ritsuzan 冨田立山
– Calligraphy Set Included as a Gift
冨田立山 Tomita Ritsuzan
A refined Japanese wooden bunko document box crafted in the tradition of Echizen lacquerware, one of Japan’s renowned lacquerware traditions.
The box is finished with genuine 漆urushi lacquer applied by hand and features an elegant peony design executed using the traditional 沈金chinkin technique. Chinkin is a decorative lacquer technique in which fine designs are carved into the lacquered surface and the engraved lines are filled with lacquer and metallic powder, producing a delicate and luminous effect.
The large golden peony and softly colored green leaves create an elegant contrast against the deep black lacquer surface. The lower corner bears the artist’s signature, Ritsuzan.
The work is attributed to Tomita Ritsuzan, a Japanese lacquer artist and 沈金chinkin craftsman associated with Echizen lacquerware. His works include decorative panels and traditional lacquer document boxes.
The original presentation box and an Echizen lacquerware information leaflet are included.
A Japanese calligraphy set is also included as a complimentary bonus. The calligraphy set is housed in a decorative plastic case and contains brushes, an inkstone, an ink stick, a water dropper, and other accessories. The calligraphy set is an additional accessory and is not the principal artwork of this lot.
This bunko can be used for storing letters, documents, stationery or treasured personal items, and it can also be displayed as a decorative Japanese lacquer artwork.
