Maurice Genevoix (1890-1980) is a French writer and poet, member of the Académie française.
All of his work bears witness to the agreement between Humans, between Man and nature, but also between Man and death. While he inherits realism, his writing is brought to life by a vivid memory, a concern for accuracy, and a poetic sense. His work, driven by the aim of preserving what he considered memorable, achieves great literary longevity, gathering fifty-six works.
He is best known for regionalist books inspired by Sologne and the Loire Valley, such as his novel Raboliot (Goncourt Prize 1925). He has, however, surpassed the simple terroir novel with his sober poetic talent, which, allied with his deep knowledge of nature, produced admired novels-poems like La Dernière Harde (1938) or La Forêt perdue (1967).
His work is also marked by the trauma of the Great War (1914-1918), particularly in Ceux de 14, a collection of war stories gathered in 1949, considered one of the greatest testimonies on this conflict.
