Vintage Art Deco platinum wristwatch for ladies with a diamond-set centre and a total diamond weight of approximately 2.00 ct (G–I, VS–SI) on a textile-like cord, lab report: No laboratory report.
Description from the seller
Genuine Art Deco Platinum and Diamond Ladies’ Wristwatch, circa 1920
Type of jewel: Art Deco diamond-set ladies’ wristwatch
Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given the watch’s age, with visible age-related wear and discolouration to the textile-like cord, patina to the dial and traces of oxidation on the white base-metal clasp.
Style: Genuine vintage Art Deco, characterised by a slender geometric composition, openwork links and finely framed diamond-set panels.
Era: Circa 1920
Material: The diamond-set centrepiece is made of platinum, touchstone tested. The fastening section consists of a pale textile-like double cord with a white base-metal clasp.
Technique: Openwork platinum construction with fine millegrain detailing.
Extra information: The movement was checked and put in good working order by our watchmaker specifically for this auction. As is customary for platinum Art Deco ladies’ wristwatches of this type, the diamond-set centrepiece is combined with a cord fastening; this antique watch should be appreciated primarily as a jewel rather than as a modern precision timepiece.
Diamonds: 2 brilliant-cut diamonds with a combined estimated weight of approximately 0.16 ct.
120 eight-cut diamonds with a combined estimated weight of approximately 1.80 ct.
Total diamond count: 122
Total diamond weight: Approximately 2.00 ct, with an overall colour and clarity range of G–I, VS–SI.
Diamond weights, colour and clarity are approximate, as the stones were assessed in their settings and were not removed in order to preserve the integrity of the jewel.
All diamonds in this jewel were individually tested with the EXA Natural Diamond Detector by Magilabs and identified as natural diamonds.
Traditional gemstone associations: Diamond is traditionally associated with April and with enduring love, and is also the traditional gemstone for a 60th wedding anniversary.
Dimensions: Total length 17.3 cm; platinum centrepiece including the crown 9.0 × 1.73 cm. See picture with a ruler in cm and inches.
Weight: 18.1 grams
