Ildebrando Monaci (1891-1987) - Veduta di Ischia

Oil painting on masonite signed Ildebrando Monaci (Naples, 1891 – 1987) depicting a coastal landscape view of the island of Ischia, with clear topographic reference to the Aragonese Castle, recognizable on the rocky islet in the background on the left. The framing, probably taken from an elevated point along the coast, guides the eye along a dirt path that opens toward the sea, framed by a Mediterranean pine forest and spontaneous vegetation.

The composition is built in successive planes: in the foreground the moved and tactile ground, animated by warm color touches; in the center a green band crossed by vertical elements (trunks, poles, and a street lamp) that rhythm the space; in the background the dense mass of pines and, beyond, the sea opening with the profile of the Aragonese Castle serving as focal and identity point.

The brushstroke is free, bold and dynamic, with a luminous rendering that privileges visual impression over descriptive detail. The palette, dominated by deep greens, blues and ochres, is brightened by warmer accents that suggest reflections and atmospheric vibrations, in line with an impressionist sensibility.
