Statuette, Papagei - 40 cm - Faience

The depicted ceramic figure shows a colorfully painted mounted nutcracker (European nutcracker) on a sturdy tree stump with foliage, mushrooms and crawling creatures, historically modeled by Johann Joachim Kaendler for the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. It is very old; the paint has cracked in small areas but it is old... Unfortunately unsigned; at the time there was not necessarily a stamp.

Design & Model: The famous model traces back to designs by Johann Joachim Kaendler (often with Johann Gottlieb Ehder) from the 18th century for the bird collection of the Japanese Palace of Augustus the Strong.

The hollow, tree-stump-like pedestal is typical for these Meissen animal sculptures and is richly decorated with relief oak leaves, mushrooms, caterpillars or beetles.
