Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan makes Ponyo, the heroine of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli in Ponyo on the Cliff, run along the back of a school of fish drawn in the blue-and-white porcelain style. The curly crests and pearlized spray directly echo Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, whose foam in volutes structures the entire right half. At the bottom, a small car speeds along the road, a echo to Lisa’s run along the submerged coastline.
The scene is treated in cobalt tones on white enamel, in the tradition of Japanese sometsuke and Delft blues, with a fine brushstroke that delineates scales, fins and water swirls. The entire surface is traversed by a network of brisures joined with gold: the kintsugi traverses the face, the dress and the body of the fish without ever breaking the reading of the scene. The vermilion dress, the only warm spot in the composition, anchors the gaze at the center, while the fine crackle and the speckles of earth give the illusion of an shard long buried.
The fracture is not hidden, it is celebrated: each golden vein tells the accident and the repair, the very principle of kintsugi, which makes the crack the most precious part of the object. The connection to Ponyo, the small marine creature who forces her way between two worlds to become something else, makes this reading immediate: you do not pass through the wave unscathed, you come out transformed. The gold here embraces the swell line, as if the ocean itself had split the porcelain.
A rare and narrative piece, ideal to bring a poetic and Japanese touch to the interior of a collector devoted as much to the Ghibli universe as to the art of fire.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists gathered around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true place of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo is part of a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity particular to each artist.
